Dreaming the Grand Sablon

Balcony overview of La Place du Grand Sablon, Bruxelles, looking toward the Gothic-style cathedral of Notre Dame. Hotel NH Collection Grand Sablon at upper corner on left. The place slants downward. Further up and on the other side of the church is Le Petit Sablon.

Gran Sablon Audio: Warning, there are a couple of volume jumps due to recording anomalies.

“Hispania” tapas bar/restaurant of Hotel Grand Sablon. The barman is a Gallego who serves me Pazo, a local Galician coffee liqueur, for my White Russian cocktail. The stunning waitress proudly signals she is Andalucian. Wow. Double hit of biotropic cues — coming from the extras!, that’s recognition. Most tads would say, mere coincidence.

The little Ukrainian bistro, La Kartchma, with its Horta-like art nouveau facade, typical of the elegant fluidic architectural decor to be seen here and there around Brussels. Such are the glimpses of precious gems in a refuse heap to be discovered by the wandering dreamer in the rotten heart of Europe.

Closing reflections: Art nouveau grew from the esthetics of the Romantic movement, following Goethean morphology and other motifs of “natural philosophy.” Ultimately, the choice to live in the Aeonic Dreaming of the planetary animal mother is an esthetic choice. When you make that choice, “You cannot become anything but more beautiful.” That unique and paramount beauty comprises many veins and strains and stains of sheer emotive intensity that you both suffer and enjoy, purely due to the intensity itself.
