I don’t know how it came about that I had such a studio photo taken at that time, in 1960. It could have been the freshman or sophomore year standard photo. Pre-braces, so you can just see the rounding of the upper lip. That may well have been pre-kundalini also. This kid had no idea what was going to hit him… In any case, five years later he’s in Pokhara battling for sanity.
The Pokhara Journal was written at the lake of Phewa Tal. The little house where I hide away at that time appears here at the near center of the photograph, vertically positioned beneath the arrowhead peak of Machapuchare. It was under construction, intended to be tourist reception office.
As it appeared then.
